Trackside captures the lure and excitement of two thoroughbreds straining toward victory at the finish line. Because the horses are in a synchronized gallop with all eight feet off the ground, the way to capture what I saw in person and in our photograph was to do the work in a multilevel bas relief.

Relief pieces offer the sculptor the opportunity to combine elements of drawing with sculpture creating the illusion of space while working with actual three-dimensional form in layers.

Trackside, with its exciting racing thoroughbreds, may be hung on a wall or displayed supported by a small easel on a tabletop.
