Playing the Blues

Playing the Blues depicts sax, drum and bass players performing at “The Village Vanguard” in NYC. Strong lighting both focuses and blurs the jazz players in this historic setting, the oldest jazz club in New York City. The jazz club did not allow photos, but I drew a series of sketches to enable me to capture the mood of the evening in this oil painting.

The atmosphere  seemed to mimic the music  and I carried this feeling back to my studio where I played “blues” while creating this piece of art.
