As a child my passion was figure skating. I even shoveled snow, if necessary, from a neighborhood pond and spent many hours  practicing figure eights and spins and checked the carvings my skate blades made in the ice to perfect my form. It was no surprise to me that I wished to paint a figure skater. In painting, as in my sculpture,I am drawn to figures in action and the body position I chose for this athlete     provided interesting negative space, also prominent in my sculptural forms.

In Balance is an oil painting of a figure skater’s grace, perfected balance, and skill as she performs before an impressionistically depicted audience.
