Heralding the Hunt

$4,300.00

Heralding the Hunt is an interpretation in bronze of the wonderfully sinuous antique brass hunting horns used in regal hunts in the 17th C. Like those horns, which were sometimes decorative ceramic, this sculpture incorporates the 1½ coils and smaller bell typical in hunt horns. (As the horn migrated as an instrument to the orchestra, the bell grew larger for a mellower tone.) The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection of hunting horns served as inspiration. The bas relief of garlands around the edges of the bell was also typical of this outdoor sporting instrument.
